Lebanon - September 2025

On 11 September, the Cabinet appointed members to two independent public bodies: the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA). Both institutions were established in 2002 but had not yet become operational. The appointments, made under a new merit-based mechanism for public sector positions approved by the Cabinet in March, aim to strengthen the oversight of two critical infrastructure sectors (electricity and communications, respectively) which have previously faced corruption allegations and poor service delivery, with frequent power shortages and infrastructure failures.
