Jordan - June 2026

On 21 June, Jordan executed six men by hanging, marking the country's first executions since 2017 and its first mass execution since a moratorium on capital punishment ended in 2014. The men had been convicted in cases involving terrorism and drug trafficking that resulted in the deaths of police and security personnel. All six were tried before the State Security Court, a special military tribunal, rather than a regular criminal court. Human rights organizations criticized the executions and called on Jordan to reinstate a moratorium on the death penalty.
