Despite the existence of laws, affirmative action initiatives and political party reforms, the participation and representation of women in politics remains underdeveloped.

A multitude of factors impede women’s participation on an equal basis with their male counterparts. One such factor is access to the financial resources needed to effectively participate in electoral processes as candidates.

This report presents findings on political party financing and equal participation of women and men in Kenyan electoral politics. It specifically looks into the role and extent to which access to financial resources determines the success of women running for elective positions.

It discusses the main findings on financial barriers for women politicians in Kenya, and makes recommendations to facilitate reforms in this area.
