On April 15th, 2023, tensions between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) turned into fighting, escalating into a severe armed conflict that has engulfed the country in what risks turning into a large-scale civil war. Securing Ukraine’s capacity to conduct future post-war elections in a free, orderly, and transparent manner will be vital for the continued integrity of its democratic governance and for the success of its recovery and reconstruction. One key challenge lying ahead of Ukraine will be to ensure the voting rights and opportunities for its displaced citizens, many of whom will be casting their vote from outside of Ukraine.

In celebration of this, International IDEA, in collaboration with the Embassy of Portugal in Stockholm, invites you to a discussion on the transition to democracy in Portugal and the lessons that can be drawn from it.
