H.E. Ms Battsetseg Batmunkh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, along with senior colleagues from Mongolia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Embassy of Mongolia in Sweden, visited International IDEA’s headquarters in Stockholm on 2 March 2026 to meet with the Secretary-General Dr Kevin Casas-Zamora. The visit reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between Mongolia and the Institute.

The delegation met with International IDEA’s senior leadership to discuss the ongoing partnership and explore avenues for enhanced collaboration, including on political finance transparency, electoral processes and the political participation of women. The visit followed Mongolia’s leadership in spearheading the adoption of the UN Resolution on Political Finance Transparency at the 11th Conference of the States Parties to the UN Convention against Corruption (COSP11) in Doha in December 2025, together with Norway, Ghana and Albania. The resolution marks a historic milestone in establishing global standards to prevent corruption and protect democratic institutions.

Mongolia’s leadership in advancing global standards on political finance transparency builds on its longstanding commitment to integrity in political finance. International IDEA and Mongolia have previously collaborated on this area through initiatives such as the EU-cofunded Level Up! Political Finance with Integrity project which focused on improving political finance regulatory frameworks.

Mongolia has been a Member State of International IDEA since 2011 and served as Chair of the Council in 2016. Notably, Mongolia was the first country to establish State of Democracy assessments as an integral part of an ongoing democracy evaluation process. These assessments have subsequently informed international practice and inspired International IDEA’s global work on country-level democracy assessment, as demonstrated by The Global State of Democracy reports.
