In order to assist in promoting the transparency and efficiency of electoral processes and support regional cooperation in the Africa and West of Asia region, International IDEA and the Arab Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) Organization signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 2 December 2017 in Amman, Jordan.

The Arab EMBs Organization was created on 2015 and is the first of its kind in the Arab world. Ten EMBs are permanent members: Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan, Tunisia and Yemen.

This MoU affirms the importance of coordinating the efforts of both organizations to attain their common objectives and the desire to mutually benefit from and develop their cooperation in areas of common concern. These areas include the development of common knowledge products; the Implementation of International IDEA curricula, policies and trends in benefit of the Arab EMBs; the promotion of cooperative work in Electoral Risk Management in the region; and the promotion of cooperative work in gender equality and money in politics.

The MoU signing ceremony was accompanied by a presentation of the activities that will be implemented during 2018.
