Increasing and improving women's political participation in Paraguay
Despite regulatory advances in terms of rights, the underrepresentation of women in elective positions continues to be one of the main gaps in the democratic system.
This project looks to strengthen women's political participation through leadership and empowerment training programs, as well as to contribute to the development of sustainable institutional policies that promote their equal access to popularly elected positions and to spaces of advocacy and public decision-making.
The project is implemented in coordination with the Directorate of Gender Policies of the Superior Court of Electoral Justice of Paraguay (TSJE in Spanish) and combines training, knowledge generation and strategic communication actions. Among others, the project contemplates:
- The implementation of new editions of the Political Training School for Women Leaders.
- The strengthening of the capacities of pre-candidates in electoral processes, political violence, and disinformation, among others.
- The production of evidence on women's political participation to inform public policies.
The visibility of women's political leadership and social awareness of gender barriers in politics.
