Bilateral consultations with national actors post events of 20 October 2022

Given the tense socio-political context following the formation of the post-dialogue transitional government and the events of 20 October 2022, the International IDEA Chad Programme has begun bilateral consultations with national actors on the implementation of the recommendations of the inclusive and sovereign national dialogue, with the view of contributing to reducing the tension, and enhance inclusive, transparent and peaceful democratic transition.

Thus, political actors, civil society associations, religious leaders women's and youth organizations and the press are being consulted.

On 20 October 2022, security forces in Chad’s capital, N’Djamena and other cities, violently dispersed protests calling for a quicker transition to democratic rule. Human Rights Watch reported at least 50 dead and dozens injured. The protests, which attracted thousands of people, marked the date the military administration had promised to hand over power to a civilian government.
