Mobile Voting – Serving Voters, Protecting Democracy

Date
17 November 2020
Time
14:00-16:00 (Brussels/CET)
Location
Online

Mobile voting can broadly be defined as a form of voting where members of the election administration visit a voter either at home or at an institution in which they reside with a mobile ballot box to facilitate their vote. While mobile voting can help increase the accessibility of the vote for groups that would otherwise be unable to vote, maintaining secrecy of the vote and ensuring that votes are cast without coercion are of greater concern with this method.

This roundtable meeting brings together electoral practitioners to foster knowledge exchange on the legal and procedural frameworks, and experiences in implementing early voting. This will be complemented by first-hand experiences based on the elections organized by electoral management bodies (EMBs). A summary report will be made available to the public.

This is the third of a series of webinars that International IDEA and the Association of European Election Officials (ACEEEO) are organizing to address questions raised by decision-makers and electoral assistance on the use, adaptation and scaling up of Special Voting Arrangements (SVAs) under a short time frame, while ensuring robust and transparent processes that ensure elections are inclusive and accessible to all voters.
