South Asia Dialogue on Advancing Transformative Gender Social Norms to Enhance Women and Youth Participation and Representation in Leadership and Decision-making

The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), under the EU-funded Women and Youth Democratic Engagement (WYDE) Women’s Leadership Initiative, is organizing on the 10-11 September, a two-day South Asia Regional Dialogue in Kathmandu, Nepal, focused on advancing transformative gender social norms to enhance the participation and representation of women and youth in leadership and decision-making.
In partnership with UN Women, the dialogue targets six countries (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka) and seeks to address persistent gender disparities in political spaces despite legal reforms and increased activism across the region. Emphasis will be placed on addressing root causes of gender inequality by transforming social, legal, and economic structures that hinder women’s political agency and leadership. Through knowledge exchange and sharing of good practices, the dialogue aims to catalyse regional efforts toward inclusive and equitable governance.
This invitation-only activity will bring together 30–35 participants, including women and men from political parties, parliaments, local governments, and civil society organizations.
