Luis José Consuegra joined International IDEA in 2015, and he is the Resource Mobilization and Partnership Officer at the Executive Division.

Consuegra focuses on providing support to all resource mobilization and partnership development efforts for the implementation of programmes, particularly for the work that International IDEA advances in the field through its Regional Offices in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe and Latin America, and through its country offices.

Consuegra also coordinates the Inter-Regional Dialogue on Democracy (IRDD), which is the only platform worldwide that brings together at the technical and political levels global and regional organizations to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the field of democracy support, as well as to identify channels of cooperation and synergies to advance the democracy and good governance agenda worldwide.

Among his main tasks are the organization of an annual Experts Meeting on relevant themes related to democracy and good governance, as well as an annual High Level Meeting with the heads of the global and regional organizations that are part of the IRDD.

Consuegra’s recent research is focused on regional organizations, gender equality and political empowerment of women and 2030 agenda for development agenda, with a particular focus on SDG 16+: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.  

Prior to working at International IDEA, Consuegra worked mainly on External Relations and International Affairs, specifically in partnership development, inter-institutional relations, youth initiatives and resource mobilization, at the Organization of American States (OAS), at the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Universidad del Norte in Colombia.
