The Plurinational Electoral Body begins a training to implement the Electoral ISO

Katia Uriona Gamarra, president of the Electoral Supreme Tribunal (TSE) highlighted the commitment undertaken by the Electoral Body (OEP) to be a guarantor of democracy and stressed that “we are working on the modernization of improvement and quality, so we hope that by the end of this year we can obtain the Electoral ISO”.

For his part, the Mexican expert, Mr Alfonso Silva, said that in order to achieve this certification, it is necessary to comply with the eight processes involved in the implementation of the Electoral ISO: voter registration, registration of candidates’ political organizations, the electoral logistics, the suffrage, the scrutiny and declaration of results, the electoral education, the control of financing of electoral campaigns and the resolution of electoral conflicts.

Silva added that the benefits for citizenship are, among others, having effective and efficient services; in addition to having reliable, transparent and fair elections, focused on the Bolivian population.

Antonio Costas, member of the TSE assured that the Electoral ISO is the consequence of actions that the electoral entity has assumed for the efficiency and quality of its services and of the electoral processes.

Costas also highlighted the supervision and monitoring of the voting processes, as well as innovations that were implemented such as the electoral suitcase, a fast and safe method of transferring voting records and which is available to the citizenship through the websites that are enabled for this purpose and for delivery of the preliminary electoral results on the same day of voting, among others.

The event is part of a programme of activities planned for this week and is supported by International IDEA, the Swedish Embassy and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). The Swedish Embassy’s Chargé d’affaires, Pontus Rosenberg, stated the importance of the Electoral ISO, to the extent that it meets citizens’ expectations.

For his part, International IDEA’s representative, Alfonso Ferrufino, highlighted the restructuring process carried out by the OEP “to fully recover the trust of citizens and political organizations in the quality of services and electoral processes in the country”.
