International IDEA is pleased to invite you to the launch of the report “Political Participation of Refugees: Bridging the Gaps” in Tunis, followed by a panel of experts and practitioners who will discuss the challenges and good practices with regards to refugees’ formal and non-formal political participation in host countries, as well as refugees' role in peace and democracy-building in their origin countries. The discussion will focus on the Mediterranean region, drawing on the cases of Lebanon, Tunisia, Turkey and Syria.

Lina Antara and Armend Bekaj from International IDEA, authors of the report, will share the key findings. In continuation, an interactive discussion will take place with:

  • Dr Ayhan Kaya - Jean Monnet Chair of European Politics of Interculturalism at the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, Department of International Relations, Istanbul Bilgi University
  • Ms Sana Bousbih – Director, Tunisie Terre d’asile
  • Mr Mustapha Abdelkebir – Director of South Section, Arab Institute of Human Rights
  • Ms Rana Mitri – Team Leader, National Agenda for the Future of Syria Phase II Programme (NAFS), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA)

Simultaneous interpretation from/to Arabic and English will be available throughout the event.
