Workshop on Constitutional Assessment Tools for Indigenous Inclusion, Rights and Environmental Protection

In collaboration with the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact Foundation (AIPP), International IDEA’s Asia and the Pacific programme will host a workshop on Constitutional Assessment Tools for Indigenous Inclusion, Rights and Environmental Protection. The event will take place from Monday the 26th of May to Tuesday the 27th of May in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The workshop will bring together 17 Indigenous leaders and advocates from seven Asian countries to analyse the effectiveness of constitutions from the perspective of Indigenous peoples. The focus will be on how constitutions, in text and practice, work to protect the environment and to protect and promote Indigenous peoples’ inclusion through International IDEA’s Indigenous Peoples’ Rights in Constitutions Assessment Tool (IPCAT) and the Environmental Protection in Constitutions Assessment Tool (EPIC)The workshop will raise awareness of avenues for advocacy on legal and constitutional reform and facilitate sharing of comparative experiences of Indigenous peoples across Asia.
