International IDEA will launch the report Let the Courts Decide? The Potential and Limitations of Climate Litigation from a Democracy Perspective as part of CIVICUS International Society Week 2025, in Bangkok, Thailand. The launch will take place on 1st November at 15:30 local time.

As courts around the world are emerging as key battlegrounds in the fight for climate justice, with young people, Indigenous communities, and civil society actors increasingly turning to legal systems to challenge inaction, greenwashing, and environmental harm. Since 2017, the number of climate-related lawsuits has more than doubled, reshaping debates on constitutional rights, intergenerational equity, and democratic accountability.

At the public event during CIVICUS Week, International IDEA is bringing together legal experts, activists, and policy thinkers from across Asia and the Pacific to discuss the report’s findings and the impacts of this legal approach in Asia and the Pacific.
