Regional BRIDGE Training for EMBs and EMB Networks
International IDEA in partnership with the African Union under the EU-funded project “Strengthening Pan-African Capacities for Electoral Observation and Assistance Project", is proud to announce the upcoming Building Resources in Democracy, Governance, and Elections (BRIDGE) training workshop. This initiative targets Election Management Bodies (EMBs) and EMB Networks from countries across Africa scheduled to hold elections in 2026 and 2027.

As the continent prepares for over two dozen elections in the coming years, International IDEA is committed to reinforcing the institutional and technical capacities of EMBs to ensure free, fair, and credible elections. This training will build on the outcomes of the AU-RECs' Reflection Meeting on Electoral Processes (April 2025) and directly respond to identified capacity gaps in key areas such as voter registration, electoral logistics, results management, and risk mitigation.

What to expect

Over the course of four intensive days, participants will engage in a customised, interactive BRIDGE training covering foundational and operational modules critical to electoral success. Through simulations, case studies, and group exercises, participants will explore the full operational cycle of elections, ensuring practical and actionable learning that aligns with African Union norms and standards, particularly the African Charter on Democracy, Elections, and Governance (ACDEG).

Who will participate

The workshop will bring together 26 participants from EMBs of 16 African Union Member States with upcoming elections, alongside staff from the AU, RECs, International IDEA, and EMB Network secretariats. A team of certified BRIDGE facilitators will lead the sessions, and gender inclusivity will be actively promoted throughout.

This training represents a critical investment in the professional development of African electoral institutions, enhancing their resilience in the face of challenges such as disinformation, electoral fraud, logistical complexity, and increasing public scrutiny. By equipping EMBs with globally respected tools and standards, International IDEA and its partners continue to uphold their shared vision of democratic governance across the continent.
