Bangladesh panel on constitutional reforms

Bangladesh is at a crucial juncture with significant reforms being proposed to its constitution. This period presents a challenge and an opportunity for Bangladesh’s democratic transition.

International IDEA and the University of Dhaka will co-host a panel discussion on Bangladesh’s Constitutional Reforms: Recommendations, Challenges and Global Best Practices to be held on 21 July 2025. The dialogue aims to provide a space to reflect on the democratic dimensions of the constitutional reform process and to bring best global practices into discourse.

The discussion will revolve around three leading questions:

(i) How can democratic principles be integrated into the constitution reform?

(ii) What are the best practices around the world after the revolution to reform the constitution?

(iii) What is the role of activism and youth participation in the constitution reform process?

This event forms part of the Youth Democracy Academy (YDA) implemented with the Applied Democracy Lab at the University of Dhaka where around 100 university students across various faculties completed YDA’s online course and relevant action plans and participated in feedback workshop.
