Democratic Resilience: Institutional Design and the European Democracy Shield
This event comes at a particularly significant moment. The recent launch of the European Democracy Shield (EDS) marks a major step forward in Europe’s efforts to counter foreign information manipulation and digital interference. By gathering colleagues from EU institutions, NATO, national authorities, and civil society, this dialogue aims to facilitate a first collective exchange on how institutions can maximise the potential of this new framework.
The discussion will draw on International IDEA’s latest publication, Designing for Resilience: Building Institutions to Safeguard Information Ecosystems, which offers a comparative foundation for understanding the institutional pathways available to strengthen democratic resilience.
The keynote presentation and expert roundtable will use this publication as a starting point to explore how the EDS and the proposed European Centre for Democratic Resilience can be shaped into practical, effective tools.
The programme will feature:
-
Mika Aaltola, Member of the European Parliament
-
Filip Grzegorzewski, Head of Division, EEAS
-
Michael Berk, former coordinator G7 RRM, Global Affairs Canada
