Cross-regional Learning exchange: Citizen deliberation for effective climate action
International IDEA's Climate Change and Democracy workstream is together with Democracy R&D, Demo.Reset, Extituto and iDeemos organizing a set of cross-regional learning exchanges about strategies to strengthen the impact of citizen deliberation for climate action.
The initiative builds on findings in International IDEA's 2024 report Deliberative Democracy and Climate Change: Exploring the Potential of Climate Assemblies in the Global South and the 2025 case study report Amazonian Climate Deliberation: Insights from Three Citizen Assemblies on Climate Finance Held Ahead of COP30. The learning exchanges will gather members of the citizen deliberation community to exchange strategies and experiences of how to increase the impact of deliberation on public policy and implemented action, including on climate and environmental issues.
The events are aimed at practitioners and researchers with experience in the field of citizen democracy on climate change and environmental issues. There are three interconnected sessions:
Latin America on 28 May 16:00-18:00 UCT
Africa on 3 June 13:00-15:00 UCT
Asia and the Pacific on 11 June 06:00-08:00 UCT
International IDEA’s programme on climate deliberation is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). iDeemos is supported by the Robert Bosch Stiftung.
