From 13 to 14 May 2025, International IDEA, in collaboration with Le Réseau des compétences électorales francophones (RECEF) and the Office of the Electoral Commissioner (OEC) of Mauritius, organized a two-day Protecting Elections workshop. Held in conjunction with RECEF’s General Assembly and hosted by OEC Mauritius, this was the first Protecting Elections Workshop conducted in French and tailored for an electoral network audience.
Since the effective collapse of central authority in Somalia in 1991, local systems have provided crucial platforms for governance. Local systems of governance continue to be relevant alongside efforts to rebuild the Somali state, such as attempts to revive formal pre-1991 local government institutions.
On 9 July 2024, International IDEA and the Office of the Election Commissioner of Mauritius (OEC) organized a crucial ‘Technical and Advisory Support Event’ in Port Louis, focusing on ‘Inter-agency Collaboration in Countering Hybrid Threats’ as part of the Protecting Elections Project, funded by the Government of Canada. The external election security expert Sebastian Bay led the workshop with support from Julia Thalin, International IDEA's Associate Programme Officer for Electoral Processes.
