Critical in any constitution-building process is the type of constitution-making body that will be responsible for the drafting but also the adoption of either a new or a reformed constitutional dispensation. But as important is the fac that any constitution-making body, big or small, elected, nominated or mixed, will have to have rules regulating its procedures.

The Queensland (QLD) state election on Saturday 31 October 2020 was remarkable on several fronts. It was the first election in the state and Australia. The two leading candidates from the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and the Liberal-National Coalition (LNP) were females, Annastacia Palaszczuk and Deb Frecklington, respectively. In this election, surveys also predicted a close contest among the main parties. But the results proved polls wrong and granted Palaszczuk a third consecutive term.
With an important voter turnout on the National Plebiscite of 25 October, Chileans decided to draw up a new constitution, by the future election of a citizen constitutional convention. What are the next steps for this constitutional process that had just begun?

Más de 160 mujeres y hombres líderes políticos de América Latina, incluyendo a 21 exmandatarias y exmandatarios, han firmado una declaración conjunta llamando a defender la democracia en la región. El documento, impulsado por renombradas organizaciones prodemocráticas, advierte que las libertades que tanto apreciamos están amenazadas por actores políticos que podrían utilizar la pandemia para reforzar ilegítimamente su poder.
More than 160 leaders from Latin America, including 21 former presidents, have signed a joint declaration calling to defend democracy in the region. The document, brought forward by renowned pro-democracy organizations, warns that our cherished civil freedoms are threatened by political actors who could use the crisis to illegitimately tighten their grip on power.

International IDEA and the UNDP created an important forum on 3 June 2019 for discussing gender quotas in Chile by holding the seminar “Law on gender quotas in the elections for regional governors and council members, mayors, and local council members.” The event was held in the Reading Room of the Chamber of Deputies in the former National Congress.
