International IDEA welcomes the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama

H.E. Javier Martínez-Acha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Panama and Secretary-General Kevin Casas-Zamora, International IDEA.
International IDEA welcomed H.E. Javier Martínez-Acha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Panama, to its headquarters in Stockholm on 11 June 2026. The Minister was accompanied by H.E. Natalia Royo, Ambassador of Panama to Sweden, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Panama has been a Member State of International IDEA since 2018 and hosts the Institute's Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean in Panama City. The visit provided an opportunity to reaffirm the strong partnership between Panama and International IDEA and to review ongoing cooperation in support of democratic governance across the region.

Secretary-General Kevin Casas-Zamora and Minister Martínez-Acha exchanged views on International IDEA's cooperation with Panama, including support to the Electoral Tribunal on electoral integrity and reform, collaboration with the National Assembly, and initiatives to strengthen local governance and political participation in the Ngäbe-Buglé comarca.

The meeting explored opportunities to deepen cooperation and reaffirmed a shared commitment to effective, inclusive and accountable democratic institutions across Panama and the wider Latin American and Caribbean region.

"Panama is a valued Member State and an important partner for International IDEA's work in Latin America and around the world," said Secretary-General Kevin Casas-Zamora. "We are very honoured by our engagement and strong cooperation with Panama and look forward to continuing to strengthen this partnership in support of democratic governance in the years ahead."
