Enhancing electoral communication in Ukraine with AI tools
The training aimed to strengthen the Commission’s capacity to develop clear, consistent and visually engaging communication materials, supporting its broader institutional communication efforts.
The programme introduced participants to practical approaches for using AI tools, including ChatGPT and Canva, in the development of visual content. The session combined technical guidance with applied examples relevant to the work of electoral management bodies.
Participants explored how to structure prompts for image generation, including defining key elements such as subject, context, style and level of detail, and how these parameters influence the quality and relevance of generated visuals.
The training also covered the use of Canva for creating and adapting visual materials, including working with templates and applying organisational branding elements such as colours, fonts and visual identity.
A significant part of the session was dedicated to practical exercises, during which participants developed their own visual materials, tested different approaches to prompt design, and explored ways to adapt AI-generated content for institutional use.
The discussion also addressed the opportunities and limitations of AI tools, highlighting the importance of responsible use, critical assessment of outputs, and maintaining human oversight in communication processes.
The event was organised within the U-VOTE project, supported by Norway and implemented by International IDEA, in partnership with the Central Election Commission of Ukraine.
This training forms part of International IDEA’s broader efforts to support the Central Election Commission of Ukraine in strengthening its communication capacity and adapting to evolving digital tools, ensuring that innovation in electoral processes remains aligned with democratic principles, transparency, and accountability.
