International Parliamentary Roundtable on Human-Wildlife Coexistence In Botswana and Beyond
The National Assembly of Botswana, in partnership with International IDEA through its Inter Pares – Parliaments in Partnership programme, the European Union’s flagship global initiative to strengthen parliamentary capacity, as well as the Climate Change and Democracy programmes, will host an International Parliamentary Roundtable on Human-Wildlife Coexistence (HWC).
This high-level forum will take place from 19 to 21 January 2026 and will focus on advancing dialogue and cooperation on HWC in Botswana and beyond.
The international event will bring together parliamentarians from Botswana, other African nations, the European Union, and beyond, alongside government officials, civil society actors, local community representatives, conservation experts, and international partners. The Roundtable will provide a platform for mutual exchange, including an opportunity for European participants to learn from African experiences and locally grounded approaches to human–wildlife coexistence.
The central focus will be on identifying effective, win-win solutions to HWC, ensuring that the interests of citizens, local communities, ecotourism operators, and wildlife advocates are reflected in policy development and legislative frameworks.
