The Global Commission on Democracy and Multilateralism, convened by Club de Madrid together with International IDEA, the Open Government Partnership and the European Democracy Hub, brings together former Heads of State and Government, senior international leaders and democracy experts to propose ways to support the multilateral system’s capacity to strengthen democracy, at a time of unparalleled threats to both democracy and multilateralism.

The Commission launched its final report during UNGA High-Level Week in New York in September 2026 and presented a focused set of recommendations for discussion. The event in Geneva will provide the opportunity to present the report recommendations to a Geneva audience of UN member states, UN agencies, civil society organizations, philanthropy, think tanks and academic institutions to discuss the recommendations, assess their political feasibility and identify pathways for implementation.

Access the global report, Democracy and Multilateral Cooperation: Revitalizing International Support for Democratic Renewal, and its background papers.

The report will be presented by Danilo Turk, President of Slovenia (2007-2012), Member of Club de Madrid, and Chair of the Global Commission on Democracy and Multilateralism and Kevin Casas-Zamora, Secretary-General of International IDEA and Vice-Chair of the Global Commission on Democracy and Multilateralism, followed by a panel discussion.
