High-level dialogue: What place for democracy in the new security agenda?

The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, in cooperation with the Kofi Annan Foundation and the European Endowment for Democracy (EED), will host a high-level Policy Dialogue on Multilateralism, Democracy and Security, taking place on 20 June 2025, at 14:30 – 16:00 CEST, at the premises of the European Endowment for Democracy.
In light of mounting global democratic backsliding and the rise of authoritarian threats, the discussion will explore how defending and advancing democracy is not only a shared value but a strategic imperative for the Euro-Atlantic security community. Drawing on a policy paper by the Kofi Annan Foundation, the event will make the case for fully integrating democracy support into NATO and EU security frameworks.
