Lourdes González Prieto

Former Head of Programme, Paraguay

Lourdes González Prieto is a Mexican expert on elections. She manages International IDEA’s programme to support democracy in Paraguay.

Her work focuses on capacity development for the Superior Electoral Tribunal of Paraguay to improve the quality and transparency of elections, and to make the electoral process more inclusive, enhancing the participation of underrepresented groups such as women, youth, indigenous communities and persons with disabilities.

González Prieto’s previous work experience includes serving for 16 years as Deputy Director, and then as Director of International Political Affairs at the Federal Electoral Institute of Mexico. She joined the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 2010 as Director of the Elections Project in Haiti, and then served as Director of the Elections Project in UNDP Burundi until 2015. In 2016 she served as Chief of Party a.i in Haiti for the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), before joining International IDEA in March 2017 to open the new office in Paraguay.

She is an accredited (Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections) BRIDGE facilitator, and she is ranked at D1 level in the United Nations Electoral Roster.
