Alexandra Walcher, a lawyer, has worked for a number of different institutions, first on international humanitarian law and human rights issues, before moving into the international development field.

From 2007 to 2011 she worked with United Nations Capital Development Fund on a complex national multi-stakeholder local governance programme in Nepal.

Before joining International IDEA, Walcher was engaged as independent decentralisation and local governance expert with different organisations and programmes in Asia, including Lao PDR, Myanmar and Nepal. She was also involved in research and policy-relevant lesson-learning initiatives and learning tools.
