Abdoul Wahab Ba

Head of Chad Programme

Abdoul Wahab Ba is the Head of Chad Programme, Ndjamena, Chad. He joined International IDEA on 5 May 2022. 

Abdoul Wahab is seasoned programme management specialist with 30 years’ experience including more than 20 years in international development mainly in governance, conflict prevention and peacebuilding including 9 years with USAID and 14 years with UNDP in Chad, Comoros, The Gambia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo. Prior to that he worked four years in government (Senegal Ministry of Planning) and five years in a financial advisory and consulting firm (M.R. Bean & Company).

Prior to joining IDEA International, Abdoul Wahab served as Peace and Development Advisor (PDA) in the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Chad. From 2018 to 2022, Abdoul Wahab served as rover PDA with assignments in Comoros, The Gambia, Niger and Togo. From March 2014 to February 2018, he served as Chief Technical Advisor/Governance and Senior Manager of a large portfolio of projects pertaining to peace consolidation, social cohesion and national reconciliation, community resilience to conflict, border management and border communities, prevention to violent extremism, support to G5 Sahel.

Prior to joining UNDP Mali, he was posted in Togo as PDA. In support to the UN Resident Coordinator (RC) and the UN Country Team, Abdoul Wahab ensured the continued provision of strategic advice and technical assistance for the implementation of the conflict prevention programme which aimed at strengthening national capacities for dialogue and dispute resolution and development of a national architecture for peace.

Abdoul Wahab joined UNDP in 2008 as Governance team leader at UNDP/Senegal. Earlier, from 1999 to 2008, he served as governance and public-private partnership programme specialist at USAID/Senegal.

Prior to joining USAID, he served for five years from 1994 to 1999 as financial management specialist in the financial advisory services firm M. R. Beal et Compagnie International, affiliated with the Senegal leading Life Insurance Company (ILICO).

He started his professional career in the public sector at the Senegalese Ministry of Planning (1986-1989), as UNDP national expert in development planning in charge of training, information and communication programmes and assistance to the NGOs in the Senegal River Valley Commission.

Abdoul Wahab speaks Peul/Fulani and Wolof, in addition to English and French.
