Referenda (Postal Voting) Act 2000; (Enacted on 14 November 2000)

Article 3, government initiated referendum means an indicative referendum.

(a)that the New Zealand Government initiates; and

(b)that is specified in an Order in Council made under section 5(a) as an indicative referendum that must be conducted by postal voting

 

Citizens Initiated Referenda Act 1993 ( Enacted on 28 September 1993)

Article 3. Indicative referendum petition.

A petition seeking the holding of an indicative referendum may, in accordance with this Act, be presented to the House of Representatives.

Comment

The Governor-in-council and the Cabinet are responsible for initiating government-initiated referenda. Any elector may initiate a citizen initiated referenda.
