According to Article 436, referendums are mandatory for constitutional amendments on the following:

Sections 1 to 48 in Chapter I (Basic Principles of the Union); Sections 49 to 56 in Chapter II (State Structure); Sections 59 and 60 in Chapter III (Head of State); Sections 74, 109, 141 and 161 in Chapter IV (Legislature); Sections 200, 201, 248 and 276 in Chapter V (Executive); Sections 293, 294, 305, 314 and 320 in Chapter VI (Judiciary); Sections 410 to 432 in Chapter XI (Provisions on State of Emergency); Sections 436 in Chapter XII of this Constitution (Amendment of the Constitution)

Article 436.

(a) If it is necessary to amend the provisionsof Sections 1 to 48 in Chapter I, Sections 49 to 56 in Chapter II, Sections 59and 60 in Chapter III, Sections 74, 109, 141 and 161 in Chapter IV, Sections200, 201, 248 and 276 in Chapter V, Sections 293, 294, 305, 314 and 320 inChapter VI, Sections 410 to 432 in Chapter XI and Sections 436 in Chapter XIIof this Constitution, it shall be amended with the prior approval of more thanseventy-five percent of all the representatives of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, after which in a nation-wide referendum onlywith the votes of more than halfof those who are eligible to vote.
