Article6, Wording of proposals, responses, and questions.

(1)The wording of eachproposal to be put to electors in a government initiated referendum isspecified by the Governor-General by Order in Council. The Order in Councilmust also specify the wording of each response for which electors may vote.

Article 11, Determination ofprecise question.

(1)The Clerk of theHouse of Representatives shall determine the wording of the precise question tobe put to voters in the proposed indicative referendum.

Comment

According to article 6(1) of theReferenda (Postal Voting) Act 2000, the Governor-General in Council and theOrder in Council has the final decision on the wording for government initiatedreferenda.

 

According to article 10 and 11(1) of the CitizenInitiated Referenda Act 1993, the Clerk of the House of Representativesultimately determines the precise wording for citizen initiated referenda
