National Election Commission
Key Duties: It manages affairs related to the proportional representation election of the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors, as well as affairs related to the national review of Supreme Court judges. It is also important to advise and recommend these affairs to the election commission of the prefecture or municipality.
Organization: The number of committee members is five, and the term of office is three years. The members are nominated by the Diet from among those who have the right to be elected as members of the House of Councillors and are appointed by the Prime Minister. The chairman is elected from among the committee members. This Central Election Commission is a subsidiary agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
