18. Is there a limit on the amount a donor can contribute to a candidate?

Artículo 56.                                                                                           

 El financiamiento privado se ajustará a los siguientes límites anuales:b) Para el caso de las aportaciones de candidatos, así como de simpatizantes durante los procesos electorales, el diez por ciento del tope de gasto para la elección presidencial inmediata anterior, para ser utilizadas en las campañas de sus candidatos;                                                                          

Private financing will be subject to the following annual limits: b) In the case of contributions from candidates, as well as from supporters during electoral processes, ten percent of the spending limit for the immediately preceding presidential election, to be used in the campaigns of their candidates;

1. El financiamiento privado se constituye por las aportaciones que realicen el Candidato Independiente y sus simpatizantes, el cual no podrá rebasar en ningún caso, el 10% del tope de gasto para la elección de que se trate.

1. Private financing consists of contributions made by the Independent Candidate and their supporters, which may not exceed, in any case, 10% of the spending limit for the election in question.

Artículo 123.                                                                                      

    El financiamiento privado de los aspirantes y candidatos independientes no podrá ser superior al 10% del tope de gasto para la elección correspondiente y se constituirá de las aportaciones que realicen el aspirante o candidato independiente, respectivamente, y sus simpatizantes.             

Article 123.

Private financing for independent candidates and aspirants may not exceed 10% of the spending limit for the corresponding election and shall consist of contributions made by the independent candidate or aspirant, respectively, and their supporters.

There is a donation limit for candidates, the exact amount is calculated differently for candidates affiliated to political parties and independent candidates. For party-affiliated candidates, individual donations may not exceed 10% of the overall spending limit from previous presidential elections. For independent candidates, individual contributions may not exceed 10% of the overall spending cap set for the election contested.
