17. If there is a limit on the amount a donor can contribute to a political party during an election, what is the limit?

Artículo 41.                                                                                         

  La ley fijará los límites a las erogaciones en los procesos internos de selección de candidatos y en las campañas electorales. La propia ley establecerá el monto máximo que tendrán las aportaciones de sus militantes y simpatizantes; ordenará los procedimientos para el control, fiscalización oportuna y vigilancia, durante la campaña, del origen y uso de todos los recursos con que cuenten; asimismo, dispondrá las sanciones que deban imponerse por el incumplimiento de estas disposiciones.                   

The law will set limits on expenditures in internal candidate selection processes and electoral campaigns. It will also establish the maximum amount of contributions from party members and supporters; mandate procedures for the control, timely auditing, and monitoring, during the campaign, of the origin and use of all available resources; and stipulate the penalties for non-compliance with these provisions.

Artículo 56 2.                                                                                         

El financiamiento privado se ajustará a los siguientes límites anuales: b) Para el caso de las aportaciones de candidatos, así como de simpatizantes durante los procesos electorales, el diez por ciento del tope de gasto para la elección presidencial inmediata anterior, para ser utilizadas en las campañas de sus candidatos;                                                                   

Private financing will be subject to the following annual limits: b) In the case of contributions from candidates, as well as from supporters during electoral processes, ten percent of the spending limit for the immediately preceding presidential election, to be used in the campaigns of their candidates;

It is 10% of the general spending limit from the previous presidential election. In each election year, the National Electoral Institute publishes an agreement on the limits on individual contributions based on what is established by law.
