As other neighbouring countries in the Middle East, Iran is affected by drought, heatwaves and water scarcity, exacerbated by climate change. At the same time, the country is among the three top gas producers and the five top oil producers in the world. Iran is also a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), although its exports are constrained by international sanctions.
