The trials with internet voting were carried out in 10 municipalities at the 2011 local elections, and in 12 municipalities in the 2013 general election. Voters could cast their vote on the internet from an uncontrolled environment in the advance voting period. On election day only paper-voting in the polling stations was possible. All the voters in the municipalities participating in the trial could cast their vote online if they wanted. However, in 2014, a decision was made in Norway to abandon internet voting.
