International IDEA is saddened by the passing of Dr Azyumardi Azra

International IDEA is saddened by the passing of Professor Dr Azyumardi Azra on 18 September 2022, at the age of 67.

We wish to convey our deepest sympathies to Dr Azra's family and loved ones. Professor Azra served as a member of International IDEA's Board of Advisors from 2007 until 2013.

He is remembered for his insightful contributions to International IDEA's programmes, particularly in the Asia and the Pacific region. His advice and views on political Islam and Indonesia's democratization continue to influence our work today. Indonesia has lost a great public intellectual, active until his last days.
