The 2024 #ThankYouDemocracy campaign, initiated by the Coalition, enabled democracy defenders from the Coalition and beyond to share their stories of why and how democracy matters. The campaign brought together partners from all regions, empowering them to showcase democracy’s tangible benefits through a series of positive outcome stories and podcasts, social media engagement and targeted advocacy efforts.

As a host of the Coalition, International IDEA played a pivotal role in bringing together diverse voices and fostering collaboration across regions. Through this effort, the campaign not only strengthened global advocacy for democracy but also created spaces for meaningful engagement, equipping partners with the tools and platforms needed to highlight democracy’s role in addressing today’s most pressing challenges.

The campaign engaged democracy advocates worldwide, grassroots champions and global leaders, such as Carlos Alvarado, Tsakhia Elbegdorj, Leonel Fernández, Eduardo Frei, Stefan Löfven, Moussa Mara, Hanna Suchocka, Jigme Yoser Thinley and José Luis R. Zapatero, among others.

International IDEA’s work demonstrates the critical need for continued advocacy to embed democracy and human rights in global governance frameworks.

’Democracy is the right system to follow, is the right system to strengthen, is the right system to spread around the world. That is why for me, all of us, we need to support, to promote and to protect democracy.’
