This marks a milestone for The Gambia, as it is the National Assembly’s first codified and gazetted code of conduct since independence. The document will play a major role in ensuring that members of parliament adhere to the highest ethical standards. This activity was implemented with the support of the Irish Parliament, which has continued its partnership with the Gambian National Assembly that began as part of the Inter Pares | Parliaments in Partnership, a global project to strengthen the capacity of parliaments.

The Ethics and Privileges Committee has committed to ensuring the full implementation of the code of conduct

‘The introduction of a Code of Conduct by the sixth legislature is a historic milestone. We are deeply grateful to International IDEA and the European Union for their invaluable support in providing us with a working document that ensures parliamentary proceedings are conducted ethically and professionally, fostering adequate representation.’
