The Report Climate Change and Democracy: Insights from Asia and the Pacific focuses on the challenges facing and opportunities for regional democracies amid this global environmental crisis. The first publication of its kind, the Report investigates the complex relationship between democratic governance and meaningful climate action and shows how democracy itself can be improved by interventions that mitigate climate change.

The Report explores how democracy and climate crisis intersect through 10 case studies from Asia and Oceania, ranging from large countries such as Australia, India and Indonesia to small island states, such as Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. The Report also discusses Bhutan, Japan and Singapore.

‘I urge policymakers, academics, civil society organizations and citizens across the Asia-Pacific region to engage with [the] findings [in this Report].’

Enele Sopoaga, former Prime Minister of Tuvalu
