Supported by International IDEA’s Building Federal Democracy in Myanmar programme, CRPH members engaged extensively with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). This relationship began in 2022, when the CRPH chairperson attended the UN General Assembly–IPU meeting in New York, opening doors for dialogue on Myanmar and parliamentary best practices.

In 2023 and 2024 the programme facilitated the participation of CRPH delegations in IPU assemblies in Angola, Bahrain and Switzerland that addressed themes such as parliamentary diplomacy and harnessing innovation for peace. Delegates engaged in bilateral meetings with members of parliament from Canada, Germany and Ghana, among other countries, and spoke on Myanmar’s situation in plenary sessions.

These efforts strengthened international recognition of Myanmar’s interim parliament, reinforced bilateral relationships and secured the IPU Governing Council’s decision to maintain the CRPH as its primary interlocutor on Myanmar.
