1998	Legislative	Personal Postal	2002	Amendment to the Public Offices Election Act in 1998, allowed participation of overseas voters in proportional representation component of elections to the House of Representatives (Japan has parallel electoral system consisting of proportional and single member districts). Further amendment to the law in 2006, eventually allowed Japanese overseas voters to vote in the district elections as well.
