Article 9
The President of the Republic is elected for seven years by direct universal suffrage. He is re-eligible. The election shall be for the candidate who obtained the greatest number of votes.
Comment
In 2003, the constitution was amended to remove the country’s run-off system, replacing it with a single round of voting in presidential elections.
