Article 119
119.1 The candidate who receives more than half the votes cast shall be elected President of the Republic.
119.2 If no candidate obtains the necessary majority, there shall be a second ballot between the two candidates receiving the most votes.

Article 181
Electoral System
181.1 The President of the Republic shall be elected from a single nominal list, constituted according to the provisions of article 185.
181.2 The candidate who receives more than half of the validly cast votes, the blank and invalid votes not being considered as such, shall be elected.
181.3 If no candidate obtains this number of votes, a second ballot shall be held, in which only the two candidates with the highest number of votes shall compete.
181.4 In the second ballot, the candidate who obtains the greatest number of validly cast votes shall be considered elected.
This was the first direct elections in Mozambique history. The president was elected through a two-round system.
