Shortly after the polls close on election day, the preliminary results begin to come in to Elections Canada. Unofficial results are phoned into the returning office from the polling station, where they are entered into the Election Results System and published live on the Elections Canada website. Elections Canada hosts a live feed on its website of the preliminary results by riding, by major centre, by province or territory, nationwide and by political party leader.  As the reports arrive from the various polling stations on election night, Elections Canada releases the results to the media for immediate publication or broadcast in locations where all polls have closed.
