For the 2002 elections, the IEC completely discarded the voters’ list that had been used in 1998, as many parties had queried its accuracy and validity. The commission also used a new technology of fingerprint and image identification and recording.

Technology used by Lesotho IEC captures the fingerprint and picture of the voter. This appears on the voter card which the voter uses to go to the polling station. The voters’ list also contains the photo of the voter.
