Article 255

(1) If there aregrounds for suspicion that a criminal offense subject to ex officio publicprosecution was committed, the police authorities shall be obligated to takenecessary measures aimed at identifying, locating and capturing the perpetratorof

the criminaloffense, preventing the perpetrator or accessory after the fact from going intohiding or fleeing, discovering and securing traces of the criminal offense andobjects which may serve as evidence as well as gathering all information whichcould be useful for successfully conducting criminal proceedings.

(2) In order tofulfill the duties referred to in paragraph 1 of the present Article, thepolice authorities may conduct the following preliminary investigation activities(…)”
