Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste (adopted 20 May 2002)

Article 66(1). Voters who are registered in the national territory may be called upon to express their opinions in a referendum on issues of relevant national interest.

Article 66(3). Matters falling under the exclusive competence of the parliament, the Government and the Courts as defined by the Constitution shall not be the subject of referendum.

 

Comment

The constitution provides for optional referendum on issues of relevant national interest, provided they do not fall within the explicit exclusive constitutional competency of one of the branches of government.
