Article 73

The politicalduties of the citizen are:

1st. The exercise ofsuffrage;

2nd. To comply withthe Constitution of the Republic and to see that it is complied with;

3rd. To serve theState in conformity with the law.

The exercise ofsuffrage includes, moreover, the right to vote in the direct popularconsultation

contemplated by thisConstitution.

Article 89

El Salvador shallencourage and promote human, economic, social and cultural integration with theAmerican republics, and especially those of the Central American isthmus. Theintegration shall be carried out through treaties or agreements with theinterested republics, which shall contemplate the creation of organisms withsupranational functions.

It shall alsopropitiate the total or partial reconstruction of the Republic of CentralAmerica, in unitary, federal or confederate form, with complete guarantees ofrespect for democratic and republican principles and the individual and socialrights of its inhabitants.

The project andbasis of union shall be submitted to popular consultation.
